Approximately 16 percent of American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer sometime during their lives. Prostate cancer develops when malignant cells form in the tissues of the prostate - a gland in the male reproductive system located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum.
Prostate cancer is the second-leading killer of men. However, thanks to more public awareness and education, men are detecting prostate cancer more quickly, which usually leads to a better prognosis and recovery.
